BASIC SHIPPING AND MARITIME LAW

The purpose of this 1-day course is to give the participants knowledge and under-standing of how to buy, sell and operate vessels in a global commercial environ-ment. We also present the complexity of chartering and operation and the different risks associated with the execution, i.e. legal, and operational risks. We will also introduce various types of charter parties.

TARGET GROUP

The target group for this course is all employees in the shipping industry, those working in related industries, as well as those taking an interest in shipping who are eager to understand the basic and legal aspects of buying, selling and chartering of a vessel. It is our ambition to develop an under-standing of the importance of a well-organized charteringand operation for the creation of value to the shipping community. This knowledge is valuable for employees whetherthey work within ship management, chartering, finance & accounting, or other functions within the maritime industry, such as classification, banking, P&I, insurance, etcetera.

THE LECTURER

Mr Tor Erik Jensen is Assistant Professor at Faculty of Technology, Natural Sciences and Maritime Sciences, at the Department of Maritime Operations at University of South-Eastern Norway. He is also Visiting Assistant Professor at BI Norwegian Business School.
