BASIC SHIPPING & MARITIME LAW

Purchase – Sale – Chartering – Operations - Marine Insurance - Autonomy Outlook: The purpose of this 1 day course is to give the participants knowledge and under-standing of basic legal problems regarding the, ship & crew , sale and purchase of newbuilding and secondhand. We also look at how to operate vessels in a global, commercial environment and present the complexity of chartering with the different risks associated with the execution, i.e. legal, and operational risks. We will also introduce various types of charter parties, as well as on marine insurance and the automation and autonomy of vessels ahead.

The course is for all employees in the shipping industry, those working in related industries, as well as those taking an interest in shipping and who are eager to under-stand the basic legal aspects of buying, selling and chartering of ships. Our ambition is to develop an understanding of how legal and commercial demands interplay as a foundation for a well-organized chartering and operation.

This knowledge is valuable for a variety of employees. Whether you work within ship management, chartering, finance & accounting, or other functions within the maritime industry cluster, such as classification, banking, P&I, H&M insurance, etcetera.

THE LECTURERS

Tor Erik Jensen is a legal professional and Assistant Professor at the University of South-Eastern Norway (USN) and visiting lecturer at BI Norwegian Business School as well as abroad. He is also in charge of our two Ship Finance and Ship Management courses.

Trond Eilertsen is chairman of Gard since 2009 with close to 40 years behind him at Wikborg Rein. He is known as one of the most experienced shipping lawyers in Norway. He is also known for climbing the Seven Summits and his "Nord-Norge på langs 2022", where he skied and walked about 1,400 km in 58 days.
